Residents of Naburn have had weekday bus services restored this week after they were withdrawn following the announcement by Utopia Coaches that it would stop running commercial bus services from 22 August.
City of York Council and local councillors have been working with North Yorkshire County Council to set up what at the moment is a limited weekday service to York.
A new morning peak journey service (service X26) starting at Stillingfleet will call at Naburn Front Street at 7:35, stopping at both Piccadilly and Stonebow in York.
A peak afternoon journey back on the 26 service departs from York rail station at 18:11 and will call at Naburn Front Street amongst other stops..
In addition, there is a 16 seater free shuttle bus (service 426) which will call at Naburn through villages from Selby to York, calling at Naburn for York at 11:14 and 13:25 and leaving York for Naburn (from Piccadilly) at 13:45.
Details of the timetable are available at bus stops in the village and at www.itravelyork.info<http://www.itravelyork.info> .
Wheldrake Ward councillor Suzie Mercer said:
“I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to restore Naburn’s bus links with York centre after the sudden collapse of their commercially-run bus service.
“Whilst we appreciate that this is a limited service it is the best we can provide at short notice and we will continue to work with North Yorkshire County Council and the bus operators to find a long-term solution for Naburn.
“I would encourage Naburn residents and indeed all residents in our ward to use their bus services as it is very much a case of ‘use it or lose it’ if we are to continue to be able to contract with operators willing provide us with robust bus links from our villages to York and beyond.”
