City of York Council is sending businesses and retailers information about the new A-Board policy well in advance of its introduction from 1 February 2017.
From tomorrow, businesses and retailers located within York’s inner ring road / Business Improvement District boundary which are affected by the new policy will be sent FAQs and a copy of the full policy.
The Conservative led council listened to businesses and retailers at a recent public Executive meeting and following their feedback agreed to put the start date of the new policy, which will be reviewed after a year in operation, back a month to February 2017.
The policy includes a general prohibition of A-Boards within the city centre with the only exception being Micklegate, where businesses will be required to apply to the council for a license to place an A-Board on the highway.
Cllr Ian Gillies, Executive Member of Transport and Planning at City of York Council, said: “We hope that by contacting businesses and retailers well in advance of this new policy it will allow plenty of time for them to consider any alternative advertising measures before February.
“We recognise the importance of working with all businesses and retailers ahead of the changes to help with the introduction of the new policy. Meetings will be arranged with business groups in advance to ensure the policy is fully understood and to enable the city A-Board and remote/shared A-Board options identified in the policy to be developed where appropriate.”
