As part of its 2016/17 budget settlement the City of York Council’s Conservative led Executive have announced plans to protect and increase funding for the multi-agency Community Safety Hub, following new powers being conferred on officers and with a successful track record under its belt.
The funding will allow Hub to continue and expand its important role in tackling anti-social behaviour and environmental crime across the City, building on such successes as Operation Erase to counter anti-social behaviour from excessive day-time weekend drinking, and the City’s first public space protection order in The Groves, as well as reinforcing the Alcohol Restriction Zone covering the area within the city walls, the Station, and along Micklegate.
The Community Safety Hub includes neighbourhood enforcement officers, anti-social behaviour officers, and police officers all working from a single location in the Council’s West Offices. These officers have access to a shared case-management system, assessing each case for risk and allocating officer resources accordingly, thus ensuring a speedier and more effective response.
Councillor David Carr, Executive Member for Housing and Safer Neighbourhoods said “The Community Safety Hub has proved to be a very effective mechanism for tackling anti-social behaviour and is having a really positive impact on life in the City. This additional funding is very welcome and underlines our commitment as an administration to reducing all forms of anti-social behaviour “
