York Conservative Association has selected Matt Freckelton as its candidate for the coming Hull Road Local Council by election. Matt is a 28 year old local businessman who specialises in technology and internet companies.
From the 2015 Local Election it is clear the winner in Hull Road will either be a Conservative or a Green or Labour councillor, the latter two parties have shown they cannot give the strong leadership and stability the city needs and in their recent budget amendments they competed for who could hike council tax the most.
Matt said ‘I am delighted to have been selected as the Conservative candidate for Hull Road which is an area that I know well having lived in it for a number of years. One of the main issues I am concerned about in is the risks of too many Houses in Multiple Occupation in an area. Students are a great and vital asset to our city but we must ensure they work with, as they generally do, local residents rather than causing issues. Whilst many people view Hull Road as a relatively central ward, I am well aware that it links into the countryside and it is only Conservatives that will protect the Greenbelt and our open spaces’.
Council Leader David Carr said ‘It was pleasing that we were able to pick from a strong field with tough competition in the final three interviews. Matt would be a great addition to the Council Group as he combines knowledge of the business world with an understanding of the frontline services that residents rightly expect from their council and that the Conservative led coalition is delivering. We have shown how by moving away from Labour’s vanity projects and running the council more efficiently we can improve frontline services and look after the most vulnerable whilst keeping council tax low. ’
