The Conservative led administration has revealed that it will use £45k from the £781k that York will receive in additional transitional funding from the Government to protect the city’s Design, Conservation and Sustainable Development programme.
Cllr, Ian Gillies, Executive Member for Transport and Planning said “This extra money from the Government is very welcome. During our budget consultation process we have listened to residents, and one of the areas of concern we heard a lot about were the proposed cuts to the Design, Conservation and Sustainable Development Team, which among other responsibilities helps to protect and enhance York’s many listed buildings and therefore the very streetscape which makes York so special. All areas of council services are having to face reduced funding, what we hope is that this additional money will allow us to work with the York Civic Trust and other partners over the next two years to build resilience into the service, which will allow the team to remain viable into the future.”
