Secretary of State for Housing Sajid Javid has written to CYC Council Leader Ian Gillies expressing his commitment to working with York to ensure that the city remains on track to submit its draft local plan by May.
It is understood that the Minister has accepted that York had to delay progress on its plan due to the announcement by the Ministry of Defence that it was to sell its York barracks sites for housing during the life of the proposed plan, and York is not on the list of local authorities whose lack of progress on their local plan process has caused the Government to decide to intervene.
Council Leader Ian Gillies said: “I’ve received a letter from Mr. Javid and I’ve also spoken with a senior civil servant who told me the Government was happy to work with us to finalise our proposed plan and to make sure it’s with the planning inspectorate by the end of May.
“The Minister has welcomed the Conservative-led administration’s progress thus far and I can assure him that we remain very much on track to meet our expected timetable.”
