Following the withdrawal of the notice of closure of Copmanthorpe Level Crossing, York Outer MP Julian Sturdy met with Network Rail to discuss their next steps as the crossing will still need to close if the benefits of the Transpennine route upgrade are to be realised.
Network Rail informed him that they intend to go back to the start of the process by considering more options and consulting on as many as they can. The consultation process will include events in the community and also look to consider the views of Bishopthorpe residents as well as those in Copmanthorpe.
With other consultations already in progress, it was indicated that the new consultation process will not begin until after summer next year.
As always, Julian encourages all who use the level crossing to engage with the new consultation when it is launched to ensure the views of local residents are heard. He will once again be making the case that any replacement to the level crossing need to be accessible and not exclude anyone in our community.
