Last week was a big week in York Central. Four Cabinet Ministers visited York in five days.
From Karen Bradley to Chris Grayling and Priti Patel, plus the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond on Friday, we had a series of senior Ministers coming here to show their support for our city.
They’ve made important pledges:
- To continue the biggest transformation of Northern railways in decades, and replace the old “Pacer” trains on the Northern network;
- To improve junctions on the Outer Ring Road and upgrade the A64;
- To develop plans for a new Northern Powerhouse rail network linking our region from east to west;
- To move Channel 4 and parts of the Civil Service out of London; and to create a new “UK Shared Prosperity Fund” to help rebalance our economy and redistribute the money we currently give to EU structural funds more efficiently after Brexit.
That’s exactly the level of support and ambition we need for our city, and that’s what I will build on if we win on 8th June.
For 25 years, York has had a Labour Member of Parliament. I don’t believe they’ve delivered anything like enough for our city. We need an MP with much bigger ambitions for York. Someone who is proactive, not just reacting to events.
If I’m elected, I’ll do things differently. Progress, not protest. Making things happen – not simply stopping things happening. On day one, I’ll get to work on building a city that works for everyone.
