A report which outlines plans to transfer £17,800 to the Acomb Alive group of local businesses from the City of York council will be considered at the Tuesday 12 April Decision Session of the Executive Member for Economic development.
In 2013 the council dedicated £30,000 to helping to improve the street’s economy. Since then £12,200 has been spent or committed to various enhancement projects, including the installation of planters, benches and Christmas lights and trees.
If the report is approved at the Decision Session it will continue to move resources closer to ‘street level’, allowing Acomb Alive to use the remaining £17,800 on further front line improvements.
Acomb Ward councillor Keith Myers said “This is good news for Front Street traders and for the many volunteers who have worked hard to help make the street and its surrounding areas a vibrant and attractive place to shop. The Conservative-led administration is keen to dedicate resources when available to local services, which releasing these monies to Acomb Alive will help to do.
“We must of course ensure that Acomb Alive have appropriate management and budget systems in place to spend the money as set out in the original Executive paper and that council oversight arrangements are also confirmed, but with these caveats in mind I look forward to seeing the results of the release of this money making Acomb an even more attractive centre for local shopping.”
