Commenting on the Prime Minister’s plans to introduce new selective grammar schools, Stuart Rawlings, Conservative Executive member for Education, Children and Young People said:
“York is fortunate to have a dedicated team of teachers and support workers who work closely with pupils of all ages to help them stretch their ability and make York one of the highest achieving local authorities in the country. Indeed York has one of the best educated workforces in the North. However we must never take things for granted and the current system is far from perfect. So I welcome this direction but will be interested to see how it proposes to increase social mobility, reduce the gap between our most able and challenged pupils and build on our fantastic results”
