A focus on improving the mental wellbeing of all York residents is the goal of the city’s new mental health strategy, launched this week by York’s Health and Wellbeing Board.
A newly formed partnership of health and social service providers from across York will lead on delivery of the strategy, which will focus on early intervention, community resilience and social isolation.
Other priorities will include improving recovery and rehabilitation outcomes, helping mothers, children and young people to access necessary help and information, improving services for people with learning disabilities and making York a more suicide-resilient city.
The group will be chaired by Tim Madgwick, who retired as Deputy Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police last year.
Cllr. Paul Doughty, Conservative spokesperson for adult social care & health said: “Creating a dedicated mental health partnership focused on making sure that all residents enjoy the best possible mental health is a really positive step towards providing better and more proactive services for everyone in York.
“ This new strategy pulls together partners working in mental health from all over the city and I believe this coordinated approach will help lead to better mental health outcomes for residents engaging with these services, both presently and in the future."
