The Conservative-led administration has pressed forward with this much needed development and the council has now submitted plans for eight new sports pitches near Askham Bar.
Last month, York residents were asked for feedback on and supported plans to build three 11-a-side pitches, two 9-a-side pitches and three 7-a-side pitches and on-site facilities, at a special drop-in event last month.
The number of children playing football in the south and west area of York has increased significantly and these pitches will provide much-needed sports facilities for these young people.
Following concerns about potential anti-social behaviour, the council will work with partners to minimise potential disruption.
The CYC public heath team is also working with Bishopthorpe White Rose Junior Football Club to prepare a development plan that will help them thrive in the future.
Funding is being provided by the Football Foundation, Bishopthorpe White Rose Junior Football Club, local sponsorship and small grants, with the remainder from the capital programme agreed by City of York Council.
Cllr Keith Myers, Conservative spokesperson for leisure, culture and tourism, said: “The playing fields near Askham Bar will give residents access to great facilities and we are really happy to be working with Bishopthorpe White Rose Junior Football Club, who are expanding rapidly.
