Today sees the return of Small Business Saturday which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
Julian was once again delighted to support this great initiative by visiting an assortment of small businesses within the constituency. He regularly meets and engages with local businesses to learn more about the vital work they do, which helps inform the work that he does in Westminster.
For his first stop, Julian visited Naburn Village Shop. Having only been open for three weeks, the shop is a fantastic addition to village life meaning residents can get fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and dairy produce right on their doorstep. Their offering is already expanding based on customer requests and you will find something new on every visit.
Following the visit, Julian said:
It was reassuring to hear that the village had really embraced the new venture knowing that if they don’t use it they may lose the service. While Small Business Saturday is only one day, it is important to keep its message all year round.
We must not forget that local businesses support an array on producers and supply chain businesses, so every penny spent really does go a long way in supporting the Yorkshire economy.
I will enjoy my pasty and toffee apple crumble and will certainly be back to try more of the tasty treats on offer!
For his second stop, Julian visited Pattacake bakery in Dunnington. This artisan bakery sells a range of tasty treats, including fresh baked breads and cakes. While Julian was in the bakery, customers never stopped coming through the door so you know everything tastes great!
It was great to hear how the bakery had worked with other local businesses to keep villagers supplied during the pandemic and that local residents had rewarded them for going the extra mile by continuing to shop with them ever since.
The bakery is an incredible asset for the village and I am sure their goods will continue to be in high demand. Their sourdough loaf and boozy pound cake did not last long once I made it home!
