On Wednesday the 24th of August from 4pm to 7pm the council’s West Office headquarters will host York’s sixth apprenticeship recruitment event, where young people and their families will have the chance to learn about hundreds of apprenticeship vacancies with employers from York and across the York area.
The event, which takes place after this week’s A Level results are released, gives young people aged 16-24 and their parents a chance to meet with recruiting employers to learn about alternative routes to Level 3 qualifications and university and to have a chance to book one-to-one advice and guidance sessions to talk about possible next steps after school or college.
The event also highlights the growth of apprenticeship opportunities throughout the city and surrounding areas, from business and finance to marketing, hospitality, engineering, construction, childcare and more. Employers attending the event will include Crombe Wilkinson Solicitors, Simpson, Nestle, the R.A.F., City of York Council, Joseph Rowntree Foundation, David Wilson Homes, Network Rail, Unity Health amongst many others.
The last event, held in March during National Apprentice Week, saw over 500 young people and parents attending.
Cllr. Stuart Rawlings, Executive Member for Education, Children and Young People said: “This popular event is an excellent chance for young people and their parents to have a look at what’s on offer regarding modern apprenticeship schemes, which have become an increasingly important way for young people to enter well-paid, successful careers. It’s also an opportunity for young people to get some support and advice on next steps after school or college and how to begin to build a career
“The Conservative Group has always championed apprenticeship programmes and when in opposition successfully fought to include funds for a council apprentice scheme to be included in the authority’s annual budgets. Now our administration is committed to helping businesses create more apprenticeship places with our York Apprenticeship Service, supporting businesses throughout York. I urge young people and their parents to have a look on Wednesday, I think they’ll be pleasantly surprised at the diversity of the opportunities on offer.”
