Residents will have the chance to quiz members of York’s Conservative led Executive at a special budget ‘drop-in’ day next Tuesday (9th February).
2016/17 budget proposals announced this week focus on protecting frontline services, vulnerable and young people. Major investment includes £1.9 million to protect vulnerable children, £100,000 annually to improve mental health facilities, £2.7 million on roads and footpaths, and £234,000 on the Community Safety Hub to tackle issues such as fly-tipping and graffiti.
The Executive is proposing to make £6.5million of savings – 5.5% of the council’s net budget. The Executive also announced plans to take advantage of the Government’s 2% cent social care precept alongside a 1% increase in Council Tax.
Residents can drop-in to quiz Executive members at West Offices next Tuesday between 10am and 7pm. Questions and queries can also be sent to: [email protected]
Cllr Chris Steward, Conservative Leader of City of York Council, commented:
“We listened to residents during our pre-budget consultation period and this is a further opportunity now that the papers have been published to let us have your views. I think the city understands the financial constraints that local government is facing, and we have put together a budget which offers value for money whilst protecting frontline services.”
