Commenting on Rachael Maskell’s Acomb “business summit” Conservative Councillor for Acomb, Keith Myers said:
“Rachael Maskell’s sudden interest in supporting businesses in Acomb is a surprise. If Ms Maskell really cares about ensuring that Front Street remains a thriving community hub, why has it taken her 15 months to meet local business owners?
“The York Central MP has never meaningfully engaged with AcombAlive before, which is working hard to support businesses in Front Street. Perhaps she doesn’t approve of the fact that AcombAlive is supported by members of all political parties?
“It’s clear that this “summit” has nothing to do with supporting local businesses, but is all about positioning Labour’s York Central MP ahead of a potential early election, and business owners in Acomb are not going to fall for it.
“As a Councillor and community organiser I’ve worked for may years to make Acomb a vibrant and attractive area, and to make Front Street an inviting place to shop. At no point since been elected as MP for York Central has Ms Maskell supported any of our community activities. Acomb’s businesses and residents will not be fooled by her blatant electioneering.”
