Local ward councillors Ian Gillies and Chris Steward have welcomed the news that Poppleton has won two Gold Awards in Britain in Bloom awards. These were awarded in the spring and summer judgings and Poppleton also got the title of overall winners in the County in the Small Town Class.
The village, which consists on the parishes of Upper and Nether Poppleton submitted a joint entry and the award reflects considerable efforts from a number of local residents both this year and in previous years.
Ian said ‘The results achieved by the volunteers are the culmination of many years of hard work, and adds to the pride of the villages. The Gold Awards are thoroughly deserved after years of silver, and the praise and congratulations are thoroughly deserved.’
Chris said ‘This award is a great recognition for Poppleton which shows how nice the village looks and truly is blooming, but is also vital recognition for residents that do so much to keep it looking good’.
