Residents of both Upper and Nether Poppleton have the chance to help shape the proposed Neighbourhood Plan for both villages during a consultation period which runs from 7 December 2016 to 23 January 2017.
As part of the Localism Act of 2011 local communities can come together to get more involved in planning the way they would like to see their areas develop in the coming years. As a result, City of York Council is working with the Poppleton Neighbourhood Planning Group in an advisory capacity to support them through this process.
On the 22nd of November Upper and Nether Poppleton Parish Councils submitted the Poppleton Neighbourhood Plan to the council for independent examination. Prior to determination by the examiner, residents who live or work in the area are encouraged to contribute their views.
Rural West councillor Chris Steward said: “It’s a credit to the efforts of the two parish councils and a small group of individuals who have worked incredibly hard that Poppleton looks will hopefully soon have neighbourhood plan in place. I would urge residents to continue to contribute their views to the plan, which has be in line with national planning policy and with strategic development plans for the area but which leaves plenty of scope for local input regarding how residents would like to see the direction of development in their communities go forward into the future.”
