After decades of previous administrations lack of investment in The City Walls we have committed over £1.6 million over 5 years to enable urgent repairs and to support on going maintenance. Our heritage is key to the city’s prosperity recognising the need for investment was the reason that one of the first motions put before full council was by Deputy Conservative Leader Cllr Keith Myers who asked for money to invest in our Heritage assets. Included in the list of repairs include re-roofing Micklegate Bar, repairing Monk Bar steps and Tower. The investment will also enable the council to survey the walls from Bootham Bar – Robin Hood Tower which is suffering as a result of trees affecting the ramparts.
