Julian has warmly welcomed the announcement from the Secretary of State for Housing, the Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP, that the City of York Council’s application to the Housing Infrastructure Fund (HIF) has moved on to the next stage.
Commenting, Mr Sturdy said
“I am delighted that York’s application to the HIF has cleared the first hurdle in this process.
The York Central site is brimming with potential and provides an exciting development for our city. This is one of the largest city-centre brownfield sites in Europe and it will deliver high spec office, leisure and retail space, with direct access in to York Station, as well as over 1,700 homes. It is therefore vitally important that high quality infrastructure brings this project together.
The application also includes proposals which would assist in delivering the Cliftongate site. I have long believed that for this site to work in the interests of future occupants as well as the existing communities, local infrastructure must be upgraded. The application includes access upgrades from the Outer Ring Road to the Clifton Moor roundabout as well as the creation of access roads and footpaths from the development.
These would be important infrastructure upgrades for our City and I am pleased that this Conservative Government has recognised at this early stage our strong local case and I will continue to support the Council’s application to the Fund”.
