The CYC Conservative Group motion for next Thursday’s full council meeting promises to prioritise keeping residents’ first collection of garden waste free of charge in the face of rising council expenditure.
Cllr. Paul Doughty, Strensall Ward, who is proposing the motion said: “Residents rightly expect that priority will be given to funding core services out of their council tax. This is a principle Conservatives have sought to maintain throughout the current administration.
“We began the way we meant to go on in 2015, with an emergency budget which guaranteed that residents’ first green bin would be free. The point of our motion is to confirm our commitment to keeping this first delivery free in the face of many competing costs when it comes to putting together the council budget.
“We want to deliver the best services we can for the most residents in York and before a service such as green bin removal becomes part of general budget negotiations for next year we want to emphasise its importance to our residents.
