York's Conservative-led Council has once again delivered a budget that sees the city's frontline services protected and commits long-term investment to build upon the successful economy.
While saving £4,300,000 from the operating budget, your Conservative councillors have managed to increase investment in adult social care, earmark £940,000 to protect children's services, secure the future of York's libraries for 15 years, and increase the disabled facilities grant to over £5,000,000.
These investments will help address the increasing issues that are raised from a growing, ageing population, as well as securing York's position as a key part of the Northern Powerhouse by cementing the city's reputation as an attractive place to do business.
Councillor Ian Gillies, council leader, said:
“We are also continuing to invest in frontline services, such as road repairs and street cleaning, which really matter to our residents, along with prioritising adults’ and children’s services where we are continuing to invest to keep people safe."
“These capital investments have only been made possible by the council’s strong financial position and the investments totalling £580m over the next five years will help us deliver key projects such as York Central, the Outer Ring Road and new house building.”
