Happy Yorkshire Day!
Falling on the anniversary date of the emancipation of slaves and having origins as a protest to local government re-organisation in the 1970’s, the 1st of August these days is better known as a celebration of the largest and best County!
Celebrating Yorkshire Day, Cllr Paul Doughty said:
"With the magnificent scenery of the Moors, Dales, Wolds, beautiful coastline, picturesque market towns and historic country houses, it’s easy to see why the ‘Tour de France’ was keen to come. Visitors to our medieval Northern capital regularly place us at the top of their favourite destinations so as a modest Yorkshireman on Yorkshire Day, I can be proud that York, the city I’m lucky to live and work in, is the cherry on the top of the icing on the cake!"
So whether you enjoy some Yorkshire Puddings, pop to Betty's for afternoon tea or take a wander down the Shambles, the York Conservatives wish you a happy Yorkshire Day!
