In response to the Conservative led budget Labour’s Finance spokesman Cllr Neil Barnes has said the new administration took over from Labour’s ‘Sensible management’.
Conservative Councillor Jenny Brooks, Portfolio Holder for Education, Children and Young People, has singled out Council’s almost two million pounds spend on children’s social care for the upcoming financial year as one of the most significant elements of its 2016/17 budget.
The budget from the Conservative led Executive will see £350,000 of additional funding to ensure a Local Plan is delivered in the year ahead. There will also be a further £5,000 of funding to support work on the Local List which is about registering buildings of important significant to the local area.
Cllr. Stuart Rawlings, CYC Conservative Group Deputy Leader and spokesperson for Economic Development and Community Engagement has welcomed the continued investment in ward funding under the administration’s 2016/17 budget as fundamental to the group’s focus on local decision making.
Today York welcomed Minister for Civil Society Minister Rob Wilson. He spoke to council staff involved in the floods and also toured round volunteers, including Fossy’s Flossys food hub, the York Community Furniture Store.
Today has seen the publication of papers for the City of York Council budget proposals. It is the first time the Conservatives have led on a budget in York for nearly 30 years and the first time since York became a unitary authority.
Following yesterday’s meeting of the Executive which approved the creation of an independent inquiry into the flooding in York over the Christmas period, the council is seeking qualified members of the public to apply for the role of Chair of the inquiry.
York residents and businesses who suffered flood damage over the holidays will be eligible to receive up to £5,000 as part of a “resilience grant” to help upgrade their property for future flood events as part of a package of support to be made available by the Government.
